Homework 2, Part 9 of 9
(Continuing from the questions you started on part 2 of this assignment)
5) In this question, you will be taking a sentence from Weitzer (see below) as your claim and then using quotes that you identify from Weitzer as support for that claim.
On p. 6 of the reading for today, Weitzer writes:
What we have, in sum, is a very mixed picture--a lucrative industry that employs many people and attracts numerous customers but is regarded by many people as immoral or harmful and in need of either stricter control or complete elimination. |
We will use a slightly shorter version of that sentence for the claim of the sentence you are going to write in claim/evidence/warrant format.
(CL) Sex work is simultaneously a lucrative industry that employs many people and attracts numerous customers but is regarded by many people as immoral or harmful and in need of either stricter control or complete elimination. |
Now, you will complete the paragraph using quotations from pp. 1-7 of the text.
The format of your paragraph will be:
CLAIM (given above)
EVIDENCE 1 (In the form of an integrated direct quotation from pp. 1-7 of the text--see below for details)
WARRANT 1 (that connects your quote above to the claim)
EVIDENCE 2 (In the form of an integrated direct quotation from pp. 1-7 of the text--see below for details)
WARRANT 2 (that connects your quote above to the claim)
EVIDENCE 3(In the form of an integrated direct quotation from pp. 1-7 of the text--see below for details)
WARRANT 3(that connects your quote above to the claim)
When writing your paragraph, be sure that you:
1) place a (CL) before your claim, an (EV) before your evidence, and a (WA) before your warrant.
(-5% IF YOU DO NOT)
2) reduce your direct quotation to 10 or fewer words (see here if you do not know how to do this)
(-5% IF YOU DO NOT)
3) integrate your direct quotations using either METHOD 3 OR METHOD 4 FROM THE EXPLANATION OF HOW TO INTEGRATE QUOTATIONS
(-10% IF YOU DO NOT)
4) punctuate the quotation properly
(-5% IF YOU DO NOT)
