THIS IS ASSIGNMENT 21

1) Although the author notes that Mario Puzo helped readers understand "the attraction of the Mafia for immigrants denied justice through official channels," (p. 71) his work ignores an equally significant path that appealed to many Italians (and other immigrants) in the early 20th century who suffered mistreatment. What was that path/ideology and why did Puzo leave it out of his work?

2) One interesting aspect of The Godfather (film and novel) is that although there is very little evidence that the works accurately portrayed the nature of organized crime (or "art imitating life") there's solid evidence that those involved in organized crime and law enforcement officials both changed how they thought about and talked about organized crime as a consequence of the film and novel. Explain how the impact the The Godfather is a good example of "life imitating art" rather than "art imitating life." Use specific examples from the text.

3) Does the author suggests that the appeal of The Godfather is to be found in (A) the extent to which it accurately reflected the audience's lived experience or (B) the extent to which it offered an alternative to audiences' assimilated and often suburban lives?

Organize your response around the familiar claim/evidence/warrant format and integrate your direct quotations using either METHOD 3 OR METHOD 4 FROM THE EXPLANATION OF HOW TO INTEGRATE QUOTATIONS. Be sure to have at least 3 different quotations from the text.
