I am an instructor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of the City University of New York. My research interests lie in algebraic number theory and mathematics education. I will have earned my doctorate from Rutgers University in Fall 2009.

Here I am on my honeymoon in front of a lovely stained glass window in Victoria, BC:

The Hearst Tower is one of the more striking buildings near John Jay. I glance up at it every morning as I walk to North Hall from Columbus Circle. I was wondering where it ranks amongst buildings in New York City in terms of height. Although it's easy to find out how tall it is, I found it surprisingly difficult to find this bit of information online. The first student who provides me with this statistic (including the source) gets a low homework grade dropped. Make sure you qualify your answer--for example, are you including or excluding buildings currently under construction? (Note: prior winners are ineligible for the prize.)
