6. Answer this question only after reading the whole chapter. Note that this question is worth 70% of the assignment.
Moral reformers in the nineteenth century frequently proclaimed that prostitutes entered the work for two reasons: either, (1) a woman’s inherently flawed morality or, (2), the oppression of “flesh merchants” who forced unwilling women to sell themselves. In the first vision, prostitution simply revealed a woman’s permanently flawed moral character and accordingly, marriage, children, and a “respectable” middle-class life would be impossible for woman of such a character. In the second vision, male oppressors pushed women against their will and against their interests into the profession.
The author presents evidence from the time period that contradicts much of the rhetoric of the moral reformers.
In two to four carefully written cl/ev/wa paragraphs explain how and why the evidence presented by the author contradicts the reformers' rhetoric. Be sure to address both aspects of the reformers' rhetoric (reasons 1 & 2)
Your paragraphs should argue a clear and concise claim that directly answers the question I asked.
Be sure your answer has at least (in total) five direct quotations supporting your claims.
