Short Answer Questions on

CAN THIS BE TURNED IN LATE?:NO

BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE FILE-NAMING CONVENTIONS FOR THIS COURSE (5% penalty if you do not).

All files should be saved on your computer as: your last name, followed by an underscore ("_"), followed by the first two letters of your first name, followed by an underscore ("_"), followed by the assignment number. So if a student named Saddam Hussein were to submit assignment number 14, the file name would be:

hussein_sa_14.doc

THIS IS ASSIGNMENT 14

DON'T STOP UNTIL YOU SEE END OF ASSIGNMENT.

Melissa Grant in "The War on Sex Workers" and Janice Raymond in Ten Reasons for Not Legalizing Prostitution have very different perspectives on legalizing sex work.

In this assignment, you will defend an analysis as to who has the stronger argument.

For the purposes of this assignment, take two of Raymond's ten arguments that you believe Grant grapples with directly (as opposed to those arguments where Raymond and Grant talk past each other).

Then, considering just those two arguments, answering the following question:

Which side has the better argument and (far more importantly) why?

Be specific and do not simply repeat the argument of your preferred side but should instead assess the relative merits of both sides.

Your response should take the form of four to six carefully constructed cl/ev/wa paragraphs that follow the instructions in the gray box below.

As always, your CLAIM is the answer to the question and claims, as we have discussed, are stronger if they contain a reason (e.g., "Raymond has the stronger argument because....")

To be clear, since you are taking two of Raymond's arguments; you should have 2 or 3 paragraphs per argument from Raymond for a total of of four to six paragraphs.

1) place a (CL) before your claim, an (EV) before your evidence, and a (WA) before your warrant.

(-5% IF YOU DO NOT)

2) reduce your direct quotations to 10 or fewer words (see here if you do not know how to do this)

(-5% IF YOU DO NOT)

3) integrate your direct quotations using either METHOD 3 OR METHOD 4 FROM THE EXPLANATION OF HOW TO INTEGRATE QUOTATIONS

(-10% IF YOU DO NOT)

4) punctuate the quotation properly
(-5% IF YOU DO NOT)
