1. Thinking about the pages from 193 to the top of 206, how and why did Prohibition (and its repeal) change the nature of sex work in New York City.  Be sure that your answer:

A) includes at least three significant changes described by the author

B) is specific about how and why prohibition produced the three changes you identify

C) that you pay attention to the role of the criminal justice system at the time

  Be sure, as well, that you discuss brothels. (70 pts)


2) How and why did "casual prostitution" expand during the Depression years and how did conditions for such workers vary from those working in brothels? (15 pts)



3) Why were so many in the "casual" market African Americans?
