THIS
IS ASSIGNMENT 20
|
In this 800-word essay (250 words is about one page of double-spaced, 12-pt font) answer the following question:
Were the actions taken by the United States in Guatemala in 1954 motivated primarily by a fear of communism (containment) or to protect American business interests (bananas)? |
WRITING REQUIREMENTS:
A) Organize paragraphs in which you present evidence (and not all paragraphs will) around the familiar cl/ev/wa pattern.
B) Place a (CL) before your claim, an (EV) before your evidence, and a (WA) before your warrant (5% off assignment if you do not).
C) Underline your thesis (5% off assignment if you do not.
D) Be sure to use evidence in the form of direct quotations. Your quotations should be no longer than 10 words; if you don't know how to reduce quotations, see here and here(both very useful). (5% off assignment if you do not).
D) Make sure your quotations are not standing on their own (see here to refresh your memory)
|
You will want to look at the grading rubric before starting the essay.
You will need at least two points of evidence from EACH of the sources below. Two points, here, means two discrete ideas, not simply two quotations. You will, accordingly, need to have 14 points of evidence total from the sources. That will mean at least 14 quotations and perhaps more if you break the quotations into two portions.
