THIS IS ASSIGNMENT 11

Matthew Restal in Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquests and in The Conquistadores: A Very Short Introduction presents a very different perspectives on the Spanish conquest than does Jared Diamond in Guns, Germs and Steel.

In a 500 - 650 word essay (250 words is about 1 page) respond to the following question:

Which of the perspectives (Restal or Diamond) best takes into consideration all of the evidence you have read for this week and why?

Hint: Thinking of Restal's arguments and the native Mexican's rendition of the conquest, WHO is missing in Diamond's explanations of the conquest? Who gets excluded from his account?

WRITING REQUIREMENTS:

A) Organize paragraphs in which you present evidence (and not all paragraphs will) around the familiar cl/ev/wa pattern.

B) Place a (CL) before your claim, an (EV) before your evidence, and a (WA) before your warrant (5% off assignment if you do not).

C) Be sure to use evidence in the form of direct quotations. Your quotations should be no longer than 10 words; if you don't know how to reduce quotations, see here and here(both very useful). (5% off assignment if you do not). To help you in writing your quotations, you can find transcripts here: episode two.

D) Make sure your quotations are not standing on their own (see here to refresh your memory)
