TIME CALCULATIONS HW 2: A LITTLE UNDER 3 HOURS

I assume that it take you 3 minutes to read a page of a college-level text. So, since this week's reading is 25 pages it should take you 1 hour and 15 minutes. Then there's the introduction to claim/evidence/warrant and the questions. I assume the six pages of introduction to claim/evidence/warrant will take you 30 minutes to do if you spend about five minutes per page absorbing the material. The first question of the homework (exercise 1 of HW2) might take you 20 minutes. The remaining 4 questions should take you no more than 25 to 50 minutes, if you spend 6 to 12 minutes per question.

Here's how that breaks down:

ACTIVITY MINUTES
Reading Simon Cole 75
Cl/Ev/Wa reading 30
Question 1 (lunchroom) 20
4 questions 50
total 175

So, 2 hours and 55 minutes at most--and likely less. Moreover, you have no class on 9/02 and 9/04, so you have additional time. You'll see that 3 hours is a lot less than college counselors recommend you spend studying every week per class. It is, however, exactly what the director of the First Year Experience, Ms. Katie Szur, recommends that faculty assign.
