ASSIGNED: 10/08,
due October 18th, 11:59 pm through blackboard
WORTH: 5% (together with the research program assignment).
If, however, you don't complete this research assignment,
it's an additional 5 points off your semester grade.
ESTIMATED TIME: Varies depending on your
question/topic.
BE
SURE TO FOLLOW THE FILE-NAMING CONVENTIONS FOR THIS COURSE
(5% penalty if you do not).
All files should be saved on your computer
as: your last name, followed by an underscore ("_"),
followed by the first two letters of your first name, followed
by an underscore ("_"), followed by the
assignment number. So if a student named Saddam Hussein
were to submit assignment number 3, the file name would
be:
hussein_sa_3.doc
THIS
IS ASSIGNMENT 3
-----------------------------------
In this assignment you will present to me
the structure of your paper and the 8 (at least) quotations
you will use to support your argument.
You will want to look at the paper
assignment first.
Your outline should identify the LEADING IDEA
(aka, "claim") of each paragraph that makes an
argument or analyzes evidence. Remember, that for every
point you make, you MUST supply textual evidence
in the form of a quotation.
So, if you want to demonstrate that the author
of your article contradicts something we learned in class,
you will need to provide a quotation
from both our textbook and your article. SUCH QUOTATIONS
SHOULD APPEAR IN YOUR OUTLINE.
Your outline (and, eventually, your paper) will likely need
at least eight quotations. You could easily,
however, have many more.
If you have fewer than eight quotations,
chances are you aren't, in fact, doing the assignment
properly.
If you've never written an outline before,
you might want to check out this.
Remember, that it is PART B of the paper
assignment (it will be obvious when you look at the
assignment) that matters most.
