GENERAL POLICIES
1)
LATENESS. Get to class on time. A late
arrival of five or more minutes counts as "late";
and three "lates" constitute
an absence. A late arrival of 15 minutes or
missing more than 15 minutes at any time during the class
will also count as an absence
2)
ATTENDANCE You are allowed two absences in
the class before receiving a failing grade. Given the generosity
of that number since we meet less than half as often as most
classes (and so two absence represent 15.3% of all classes),
I will make no exceptions. Here's another way to think about
it: would your employer allow you to show up less than 84.7%
of the time?
BECAUSE YOUR GRADE REFLECTS A SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE COURSE MATERIAL (AND NOT WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE DONE), YOU CAN NOT MISS MORE THAN TWOCLASSES FOR ANY REASON AND PASS THE CLASS.
GOOD REASON, BAD REASON, EXCUSED, UNEXCUSED, YOU CAN NOT HAVE MORE THAN TWO ABSENCES AND RECEVE CREDIT FOR THIS COURSE. |
If you miss class,
you must send your assignment by the start of class time;
you may send me your prepped chapter
within 72 hours of the end of the class time you missed..
3) It is a requirement of this class that you check your JJ e-mail every 24 hours on weekdays and every 36 hours on weekends as I use e-mail to get announcements pertaining to the class out to everyone.
4)
Cell Phone Use is NOT Permitted In
Class.
Each
time you cell phone rings in class, you will be penalized
3.5
percentage points from your final semester grade;
likewise, each time you use your cell phone to text in class,
I will deduct 5 points
from your final semester grade. These point deductions are
large enough to deter you from using your cell phone but
not so large that I might flinch and not impose them. In
short, the penalty is swift and certain--but not severe.
LATE PAPERS
If
your paper is late, I will deduct from your essay's grade
according to the following schedule:
