During the past decade technology has become omnipresent in the college classroom. The use of Blackboard to enhance instruction has proliferated, PowerPoint is pervasive and podcasting is widespread. Almost every faculty member seems to be incorporating some form of technology in their curricula to facilitate learning in the classroom and to foster in students a greater understanding of the disciplines in which they are engaged. There has been so much technological advancement in the past five years, tweeting, social networking, eBooks, that it seems important that the College’s faculty meet to learn, discuss, and plan for the efficient use of technology as a pedagogical tool now and in the future.  This Faculty Development Day hopes to begin this process.

We would to love to know what you
think, please take a few moments
of your time and give us your opinion.

Faculty Development Day Evaluation

I am thrilled that we are having our second Faculty Development Day focused on using technology to support teaching and learning. Imagine, the last time the College hosted a faculty development event on technology, we had workshops on such cutting-edge topics as “email” and “web searches”—this was pre-Google, pre-Facebook, and pre-Blackboard. How technology has changed and how wonderful that we have a day devoted to helping you change with it.

On behalf of the Faculty Senate, which is co-sponsoring this faculty development day, I invite you to attend and promise you a truly fabulous experience. The Faculty Senate’s Committee on Technology, which has been jointly led since its formation by Professor Lou Guinta and Professor Bonnie Nelson, has been doing splendid work on behalf of the faculty and students of our College for many, many years. Bonnie and Lou have now spearheaded this information technology faculty development day event and I want to publically thank them and the members of the organizing committee for imagining and organizing this special day. I look forward to seeing you then.
