History 205: Contemporary History of Civilization is an introductory course in the history of civilization from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. Among the topics to be considered are: the French Revolution; the American Revolution; industrial capitalism and imperialism; Marxism; the World Wars; the Russian and Chinese Revolutions; the Great Depression and its impact; the Cold War; decolonization and the Third World; intellectual and cultural developments; civil rights, civil liberties, and democracy worldwide in the twentieth century.
Prerequisite or corequisite: English 101.
