History 204: 500CE-600CE is an introduction to the history of civilization from the fall of the Roman Empire to the time of the Reformation in Europe. Among the topics to be considered are: government and empire in the post-Roman world; the spread of Christianity, Islam; the Arab impact on the West; church and state in the Middle Ages; the Renaissance and Reformation; the expansion of Europe; the empires in India and China; the unification of Japan; civilizations in the Americas; Africa.

Prerequisite or corequisite: English 101.
